as The Gallimimus stampede; the valley Grant and the children cross

The flock of Gallimimus runs past Grant, Lex and Tim and the T. rex takes one down. The fallen tree they hide behind is still in the field. Jurassic World used the same valley for the Indominus rex paddock, and Fallen Kingdom for the radio-tower bunker.

NOTETake the Jurassic Adventure Tour if the dinosaurs are the point; the cheaper bus tour is a general ranch-and-movies loop with Kong, Jumanji and Godzilla thrown in.

EXT. MANAWAIOPUNA FALLS (JURASSIC FALLS) – HANAPEPE VALLEY, KAUAI

Manawaiopuna Falls (Jurassic Falls)

The 122 m waterfall behind the helipad when Hammond's helicopter sets down on Isla Nublar. The valley approach before it is the same Hanapepe Valley.

NOTELandings depend on weather in the valley. Book early in your stay so a cancelled flight can be moved.

EXT. NA PALI COAST AND HANALEI BAY – NORTH SHORE, KAUAI

The helicopter approach over sea cliffs in 1993, the barge and coast shots of The Lost World, the island reveals in Jurassic Park III and Jurassic World. Hanalei Bay and the valley behind it appear in the flyover.

NOTEThe morning boat trips have calmer water; the afternoon ones better light on the cliffs. Seasickness is real on this coast.

EXT. ALLERTON GARDEN – LAWAI VALLEY, KAUAI

Allerton Garden

as The dinosaur nest under the fig roots; the maintenance shed

Grant, Lex and Tim find the hatched eggs among the buttress roots of the Moreton Bay fig trees. The same trees appear in Pirates of the Caribbean. The shed where Ellie restarts the power was built on garden grounds.

NOTEThe guides know exactly where the eggs were and let you stand in the roots. The Sunset Tour adds dinner at the Allerton house.

EXT. OLOKELE CANYON – WAIMEA, KAUAI

Filming started here on 24 August 1992: the fence line the tour cars follow into the park, and the canyon walls behind it.

EXT. MOUNT WAIALEALE AND THE BLUE HOLE – WAILUA, KAUAI

Mount Waialeale and the Blue Hole

as The park gates; the T. rex paddock

The great gates were built at the foot of Waialeale at the end of the Wailua valley, and the T. rex paddock in the rain-soaked crater known as the Blue Hole. The set is gone; two of the gate posts are said to remain.

NOTEFrom the air the crater is a wall of waterfalls. Most helicopter tours fly into it when the cloud lifts.

EXT. LIMAHULI GARDEN AND PRESERVE – HA'ENA, KAUAI

Limahuli Garden and Preserve

as The raptor pen in the prologue

The opening scene: the crate, the gatekeeper pulled in, Muldoon shouting 'Shoot her'. Shot in the valley above the garden's taro terraces.

NOTEThe garden is about the Hawaiian valley, not the film; nobody points at raptor pens. Come for the terraces and the view of Makana.

EXT. HO'OPI'I FALLS – KAPA'A, KAUAI

Ho'opi'i Falls

as The Mano de Dios amber mine, Dominican Republic

The mine where Dodgson's lawyer inspects the mosquito in amber. The 'Dominican Republic' never left Kauai; Kapa'a's waterfront was 'San José, Costa Rica' the same week.

NOTEGo early. The neighbours tolerate hikers, not car doors at dusk.

EXT. JURASSIC KAHILI RANCH – KILAUEA, KAUAI

Jurassic Kahili Ranch

as The Brachiosaurus at the lagoon; jungle for JP III and Jurassic World

'Welcome to Jurassic Park' – the first Brachiosaurus at the water, shot at the Puu Ka Ele reservoir. The ranch also gave Jurassic Park III its jungle and Jurassic World the Gyrosphere valley.

EXT. KIPU RANCH AND KIPU KAI BEACH – LIHUE, KAUAI

Kipu Ranch and Kipu Kai Beach

as The Lost World opening: the family picnic and the Compsognathus

Kipu Kai, the cove below Mount Haupu where the yacht family lands and the girl meets the 'Compys', shot in December 1996. The ranch above it also appears in Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Descendants.

EXT. KUALOA RANCH, HAKIPU'U VALLEY – OAHU

Kualoa Ranch, Hakipu'u Valley

as Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom: the bunker, the cages, the Gyrosphere run

The rainforest valley next to Ka'a'awa: Owen's bungalow and the helipad in Jurassic World, the communications bunker where Claire and Franklin hide from the lava in Fallen Kingdom. The bunker and the base of the radio tower are still there.
