EXT. FERN COTTAGE – PORT ISAAC

as Doc Martin's surgery and home

Every arrival at the surgery, the patients on the terrace, Martin looking down on the harbour. A Grade II listed cottage at 4 Roscarrock Hill, about 100 m up the lane on the west side of the harbour. Only the exterior was filmed; the consulting room and kitchen were sets in a barn at Roscarrock Manor Farm.

NOTEThe classic shot is from the Platt across the harbour, cottage with the cliff behind. Late afternoon light is on the front.

EXT. THE PLATT AND HARBOUR – PORT ISAAC

as Portwenn harbour – the village centre in every episode

The slipway where the boats are hauled up, the beach at low tide, the lifeboat station. Bert's van, Louisa walking to school, the pilot's opening. Most exterior scenes were timed for low water.

NOTECheck tide times. At high water the beach and half of the familiar view are under the sea.

INT. THE GOLDEN LION – PORT ISAAC

The village pub in all ten series, and the pub in the Fisherman's Friends films, which were shot in the same streets. A Grade II listed inn at 10 Fore Street on the harbour front, with a balcony over the water.

NOTEThe Crab and Lobster sign has stayed up for years; look for it before ordering.

EXT. THE OLD SCHOOL HOTEL – PORT ISAAC

as Portwenn Primary School – Louisa's school

The school exterior and playground for most of the series. Built in the 1870s by Silvanus Trevail as the village school, closed in the mid-1970s, now a twelve-room hotel on Fore Street. For series 3 to 5 the school scenes moved to Delabole Primary School, 10 km inland.

The chemist's shop front by the Platt, one of the few village locations where the interior was also used. In the early series the pharmacy was a private house, Little Dolphins on Middle Street.

The terrace over the harbour where Bert and Al serve dinner, just below Fern Cottage. The kitchen scenes were shot at the farm. Bert's bench is on the lane a few steps further up.

EXT. SEA COVE COTTAGE, FORE STREET – PORT ISAAC

Louisa's cottage at 25 Fore Street, on the main lane up from the harbour, plus the alleys around it: Aunt Ruth's white cottage is reached through Temple Bar, the passage locals call Squeeze-ee-belly Alley, under 50 cm wide.

EXT. PORT GAVERNE – PORT GAVERNE

The cove used for most beach scenes and many of the cliff shots; the hamlet is stone cottages around a slipway, once the port for Delabole slate.

NOTEPark here if Port Isaac is full and walk in over the headland – it takes ten minutes.

EXT. DOYDEN CASTLE, PORT QUIN – PORT QUIN

as Pentire Castle – the series 5 finale

The cliff-top folly on Doyden Point, built about 1830 for a Wadebridge bon viveur, where Martin and Louisa's fifth series ends. It was Dr Enys's house in the 1970s Poldark too.

NOTEThe 8 km circular walk Port Isaac – Port Quin and back is the best half-day here, castle included.

EXT. ST NONNA'S CHURCH, ALTARNUN – ALTARNUN, BODMIN MOOR

Martin and Louisa marry in the 15th-century 'cathedral of the moor', 30 km inland. The moorland farm scenes were shot around Altarnun, St Breward and Camelford.
