Breaking Bad was written for Riverside, California, and moved to Albuquerque for the tax credit; the city then became the show. Between 2008 and 2013, and again for Better Call Saul from 2015 to 2022, the production used real houses, real restaurants and real businesses that mostly still exist under their own names. Almost all are private or working premises: the rule is look, photograph from the sidewalk, buy something if it is a shop – and do not throw pizza on the roof.

Every scene at home, the pool, the driveway, the pizza on the roof. The house is at 3828 Piermont Drive NE in the north-east of the city.

VISITING

Private property. The family that owned it since 1973 put up a six-foot fence in 2017 after years of fans on the lawn; in February 2026 the house was sold to a new owner. You can see it from the street. Park considerately – the neighbours have had enough.

NOTEThe tour buses stop briefly and stay on the road. Do the same.

Gus's chicken restaurant is a branch of the local burrito chain Twisters at 4257 Isleta Boulevard SW in the South Valley. The interior was dressed for filming; the booths and counter are the ones on screen.

VISITING

A working fast-food restaurant with a Los Pollos Hermanos sign kept up for fans. Order a burrito, take your photo at the booth. About 10 km south-west of downtown.

NOTEAsk before photographing staff. They have been asked ten thousand times, and they are still polite about it.

The three-hour RV tour is the one everyone means: a replica of the Fleetwood Bounder that stops at the house, the car wash, Saul's office and the chicken restaurant. The locations are up to 20 km apart and Albuquerque has almost no public transport to them, so without a car the tour is the only realistic way.

Tips before you go

  1. The locations are spread over 20 km of a car city. Rent a car or take the RV tour; there is no walking route.
  2. The White house, Jesse's house and Hank's house are private homes. Photograph from the street and leave.
  3. Twisters on Isleta and the Dog House are the two where you can go in and eat – do that instead of loitering.
  4. The Candy Lady's blue candy is the souvenir; the shop is in Old Town, which is worth an hour anyway.
  5. Better Call Saul added dozens of locations across the city, from the Omaha Cinnabon (filmed in an Albuquerque mall like everything else) to the courthouse downtown.
  6. Summer afternoons reach 35 °C; the RV has air conditioning, the sidewalks do not.

  • 2007: The pilot shoots in Albuquerque in March after New Mexico's 25 percent tax rebate beats Riverside, California.
  • 2008: The series premieres on AMC in January.
  • 2013: The finale airs in September; a 'funeral' for Walter White is held at Sunset Memorial Park in October with a real headstone, removed weeks later after complaints from bereaved families.
  • 2015–2022: Better Call Saul films six seasons in the same city.
  • 2017: The owners of the White house put up a fence.
